Online Contortion & Handstand Classes

Build flexibility, balance and the strength to support them.

Learn contortion and hand balancing through progressive exercises, individual corrections and consistent practice. In this two-hour live class, Anastasia Evsigneeva adapts exercises to your background, current level and goals, helping you understand both what to practise and how to approach it.

Prerequisites are a comfortable bridge, body awareness and at least some experience in a movement-related practice. You do not need to arrive with a freestanding handstand or an established contortion practice.

Saturdays · 1–3 p.m. Montréal time · Google Meet

Instruction is available in English and Russian. Classes are generally for ages 14 and up; students aged 10–13 require prior approval.

A practice built around progressions

The class goes beyond a general stretching session. You will work with exercises that develop the mobility, strength and coordination needed for particular hand-balancing and contortion skills.

Depending on your level and goals, your practice may include:

  • Freestanding handstands and changes of leg shape.
  • Handstand presses and elbowstands.
  • Bridges, cheststands and ankle catches.
  • Splits and needle scales.
  • Conditioning to support movement through a greater range.

These are possible directions for training, rather than a checklist everyone must complete. Anastasia adjusts the progressions so you can work at an appropriate level while developing the foundations for what comes next.

Attention to how you practise

Anastasia’s teaching draws on anatomy, body mechanics and her own ongoing movement research. Strength and control are developed alongside flexibility, with attention to the demands of each position.

The aim is a practice you can approach with curiosity, patience and increasing confidence. Communicate discomfort, ask questions and take the time you need to understand a progression. Progress is individual; pain is not a measure of a successful class.

Student experiences

These clips were filmed during Anastasia’s in-person group classes. The class offered on this page takes place live online, but the Reels show the students’ engagement, the progression-based practice and the supportive atmosphere Anastasia brings to group training.

Schedule and joining the class

Classes take place on Google Meet every Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Montréal’s local time: Eastern Standard Time in winter and Eastern Daylight Time in summer. If you live elsewhere, check the time difference for the date you intend to attend.

Complete the registration form and arrange payment. Your registration is valid once payment has been processed. New students receive the Google Meet link after payment, before their first class.

Pay by Interac e-transfer to anastasia.evsigneeva@gmail.com, or use PayPal if you are outside Canada. The registration form includes the PayPal QR code and the Terms of Participation. Contortion and handstand classes are not recorded.

Who can join?

The group is suitable for students with different levels of contortion and handstand experience. Participants should have a comfortable bridge, body awareness and some experience in a movement-related practice. Classes are generally for ages 14 and above.

Students aged 10–13 may join only after Anastasia has spoken with a parent or guardian and approved participation. A private session may be needed first. Younger students must be able to follow instructions, stay focused and approach the practice with appropriate independence. Classes are not offered to children under 10.

For every participant under 18, a parent or guardian must remain in the same building where the student is taking the online class and be available if assistance is needed.

Prepare your practice space

For any class format, have a yoga mat, two yoga blocks, a chair and a resistance band (TheraBand), plus at least a clear 3 × 3 metre practice area and wall space for handstands and other drills.

Missing an item? Email Anastasia before your first class to check whether you can start with what you have. In many cases, exercises can be adapted while you arrange equipment for later sessions.
