Mind - Body - Creation

Photo by: Leif Norman This workshop is designed for emerging artists who are just starting their careers as well as professional artists who are interested in adding some new creation methods into their toolbox or just wanting to expand their perception of the discipline they are working in. “Mind-Body- Creation” will be held under Anastasia’s guidance and based on her own artistic practice and the knowledge she has attained from her teachers and mentors.

The main goals for the workshop are:

  • to develop a better mind-body connection, improve body awareness through several somatic approaches and integrate them into artistic practice
  • to experiment with guided improvisational techniques in both solo improvisation and working with a partner
  • to learn different approaches to the creation of an act/piece, get feedback on the existing act (if applicable), and start the process of the new creation

Dates:

Friday, May 6, 6:30- 8:30 PM

On the first day, the participants will be introduced to several theoretical ideas about body alignment and the connection with the mind and guided through the exercises that will help them to apply the discussed concepts. In the second part of the workshop, the participants will be introduced to improvisational tools and go through the process of guided improvisation. Improvisation will be discussed as a skill on its own as well as a tool for creation.

Saturday, May 7, 4:00-6:00 PM

On the second day, the participants will be introduced to the partner bodywork as a way of both learning about one’s body and the body (anatomy) of your partner, finding the places of tension and the ways to release it. Working in pairs and groups to explore principles of contact improvisation.

Sunday, May 8, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM

On the last day, the participants would be invited to a conversation about the creative process and offered several approaches for creating an act. The participants would have an opportunity to showcase their act in any discipline if they want to receive feedback and/or artistic critique. This is a day to improve an existing choreography/act and/or start a new creation.
